Roberto E. Wirth, the Hotel Hassler’s owner and General Manager,
inaugurated Imàgo, the Hassler’s newly renovated panoramic
restaurant, on December 5th, 2006, with a new name and a brand
new look.
Enviably situated in one of the highest spots in the city’s
center - at the top of the Spanish Steps, Imàgo’s inauguration
marked the 50th anniversary of Rome’s very first panoramic restaurant
(it was opened earlier than 1956, but only as a tea room). Since
it first opened its doors, this timeless restaurant has welcomed
the most famous celebrities, politicians, aristocrats, intellectuals
and artists. From Juan Peròn to Audrey Hepburn, from
the Kennedy’s to Princess Diana, everyone has come to the Hassler
and its famous restaurant to savor the most breathtaking view
in Rome and the Dolce Vita…
The décor has been completely renovated to now give even
greater value to the stunning panoramic view. From the Villa
Borghese gardens to the Trinità dei Monti Church, to
Piazza di Spagna with its famous fountain “La Barcaccia”, St.
Peter’s Basilica, the Pantheon and the Sant’Agnese Church by
Borromini on the Piazza Navona - these are just some of the
landmarks among the domes and rooftops that personify Rome as
one of the most romantic and memorable destinations for all
travelers from time immemorial.
Taller and wider windows, tables made of mirror, harmonious
and classical shapes and colors in terms of tableware, white
marble flooring with antique-wood inlay are just some of the
elements that have contributed to a more contemporary yet classical
look, without losing any of its traditionally elegant atmosphere.
Imàgo’s Chef Francesco Apreda delights guests with his
carefully planned menus comprising delectable dishes such as
Breaded sea scallops stuffed with buffalo mozzarella, celery
leaves and black truffle, Fusilloni pasta with quail ragoût
“Carbonara Style”, Roasted sea bass fillet with tondini beans
and shallots, ginger and eggplant sauce, and for a sweet ending:
Sicilian cannoli filled with mascarpone cheese and pistachios,
raspberry and star anise sorbet. Naturally talented with his
own creative flair for associating a touch of the exotic to
the traditional flavors of Italian cuisine, Francesco Apreda
is one of the youngest Chefs in the city. His exceptional clarity
of vision on how to run his kitchen led him to design Imàgo’s
new kitchen, choosing induction cooking technology for its valuable
benefits. Our guests get a glimpse of it through a window to
their right as they enter the restaurant that looks on to the
pastry corner and out beyond to the Villa Borghese gardens framed
by the kitchen’s large windows. Our Chef believes that superb
cuisine is not only something to be tasted, but also to be seen
and felt… an experience that encompasses all the senses.
Imàgo…the word itself derives from Latin, and means “image”.
It also means “vision, dream, apparition, view, thought, memory,
and fairy tale.” The view of Rome, almost as an apparition,
a dream that leads one to a dream world or fairy tale.
Imàgo is one of the most romantic places in the world
to take someone special. It is also available for small groups
up to 12 people and seats a total of 65. An array of personalized
menus can be organized and prepared according to your wishes.
